Castries, Saint Lucia: The dog shelter of Castries, Saint Lucia, HelpAWS, has shared a social media post remembering Keisha, a little pup who got a house because of the efforts and support of the organisation.
The social media post informing about the doggy read as follows,
“It’s time for a Throwback Thursday post!
Some of you may remember Keisha, but if you have recently started following us, this is her story.
To say this poor girl had a tough life before she came into our care would be an understatement. Even though she was owned, she had been abused, neglected and starved.
She was abused so badly that she actually lost one of her eyes.
We can only imagine the excruciating pain she was in and how confused she must have been feeling such horrendous abuse at the hands of someone she may have once loved.
When she has a little pup, her owner surrenders them all into our care. It’s understandable that when she arrived at the shelter, she was closed off and scared of her own shadow; she was terrified of everything except her newborn babies, which she still looked after and cared for even though she was hurting so bad from all of the abuse she had been through. It’s true what they say: A Mothers Love Knows No Bounds.
We did everything we could to allow her to regain her trust in humanity. Countless hours are spent sitting across from her, offering her food, calmly talking to her, and eventually stroking her fur. Over time it began to pay off, and she became comfortable around us.
As a result of all of the patience and hard work everyone put into her care, this beautiful girl has found her place in this world alongside her forever family. A family who admires the strength that she has respects the trauma she went through, and gives her the space to allow herself to trust and love again.
In her new home, she has even been able to help encourage her once shy fur siblings to embrace new changes and open themselves up to live a happy and free life knowing that nothing and no one will ever hurt them again.
With so many new intakes over the last few weeks and adoptions at an all-time low, we are feeling a bit defeated and worried. Stories like Keisha’s are what keep us motivated at times like these.”
While concluding the post, HelpAWS expressed gratitude and mentioned that seeing where she is now and how happy she is, they recognise none of this would have been possible without all the endless support and donations by the followers. It also expressed thank you!
