American Airlines' non-stop services to Saint Lucia return with a special surprise

American Airlines made a remarkable return of its non-stop services between Hewanorra International Airport, Saint Lucia and John F Kennedy International Airport, New York on Saturday.

The return of this flight became even more special as it was operated by a proud son of Saint Lucia, Tevin Belasco as it was his first time piloting an aircraft to his homeland in his nine-year career.

Captain Jerome Morgand led the flight from New York to Saint Lucia, joined by First Officer Tevin Belasco. The resumption of the services by American Airlines shed light on the increasing demand for Saint Lucia from the New York and Tri-State area.

Grand Welcome

The return flight of American Airlines was welcomed with a water cannon salute. As the flight arrived at the Hewanorra International Airport, the First Officer, Tevin Belasco elatedly waved the Saint Lucian flag out the window.

He expressed his happiness on returning back to the soil where his passion for aviation began. He also received a warm welcome from the Tourism Authority of Saint Lucia, SLASPA, and his family, who were present to celebrate this special milestone.

As Belasco stepped off the aircraft, he was greeted with bouquet of flowers, goodies hamper, applauses, hugs and much more. He also expressed his excitement and said that “no matter how far you go, there’s no place like home.

Minister of Tourism of Saint Lucia, Ernest Hilaire also took to his official Facebook account and extended a huge welcome to Belasco. “It was a pleasure having you back home Tevin. You are a true inspiration to all. Your story is unique and so are your achievements. We wish you all the best in your future endeavor.”

Tevin Belasco on Flight

During his flight from New York to Saint Lucia, Tevin Belasco was joined by his, parents, sister and other family members.

Expressing his happiness, Tevin Belasco said that this flight from New York to Saint Lucia is truly special for him.

“This is the first time after 9 years becoming a pilot, actually flying back home to the island of Saint Lucia where I was born and raised.”

He also thanked his parents for their unwavering hard work and sacrifices for him and his brother so that they could achieve their respective dreams and turn their aspirations into reality.

“They sold the land. They gave up the mini mart just for me to go to school to become a pilot.”

The passengers on board the flight cheered and lauded the First Officer, Tevin Belasco and boosted his confidence.

Return of American Airlines to boost tourism

The return of American Airlines to Saint Lucia will play a significant role in bolstering the tourism sector of the country. Minister Hilaire also added that the resumption of the services is a great opportunity for the travellers to get themselves immersed in the beauty of Saint Lucia.
