England Secures historic 3-1 victory in T20 Series over West Indies on their home ground

England registered their first-ever victory on the West Indies soil, be it any format, since 2019, winning the recently concluded 5-match T20I series by 3-1. The captain of the England team, Jos Buttler collected the trophy, taking a successful revenge from their rivals, West Indies Cricket Team for their loss in the ODI Series.

As per the details, the fifth & final match of the T20 series between West Indies and England was abandoned due to bad weather after 5 overs of gameplay, ending up the series with 3-1 in favour of the former.

Fifth match of T20I series between West Indies and England

The match began with England winning the toss and decided to bowl first at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Saint Lucia. The West Indies team was batting at 44-0 when the rain interrupted the game. The openers, Evin Lewis and Shai Hope were in good form, as they were at 29 and 14 when the match was put to halt due to the disturbance caused by the rain.

After waiting for several hours, when the cloud showed no signs of improvement, the match authorities decided to call off the game.

The Captain of the West Indies, Rovman Powell called it a tough series for them. He further appreciated the Captain of England, Jos Buttler and his team for their exceptional performances throughout the tournament. He mentioned about the struggles they faced during the tournament and said that England were dominant on them throughout the series and created several challenging conditions for them.

England won the first three matches of the series by 8 wickets, 7 wickets and 3 wickets respectively. Meanwhile, the fourth match was won by the Windies by 5 wickets in a record run chase.

The English Cricketer, Saqib Mahmood was awarded the Player of the Series Award for his outstanding bowling display. He claimed 9 wickets in total in this T20I series.

Mahmood expressed gratitude on winning this award and said that he had worked really hard to come back into the England team. He also shed light on his future prospects and aimed at continue to make efforts with a vision to lead his team towards victory.

Tough Series for West Indies

This series has been really tough for West Indies as they faced three consecutive losses in their home ground. It was this time that England got to break their losing streak in West Indies that has prevailed since 2019.

Despite making adequate efforts and giving tough fights to their opponent, West Indies was still not able to add the victory to their taste. However, they enjoyed the success in the 4th match of the series, when they defeated England by 5 wickets.

The powerful knock from Shai Hope and Evin Lewis helped the team to chase down the target of 218 runs. This was the highest successful run chase by the Windies which they made with one over to spare, scoring 221 runs with 5 wickets down in just 19 overs.

Upcoming Matches of West Indies

The West Indies Cricket team have a test series ahead against Bangladesh and the team is aiming to make all their efforts with a vision to conclude the World Test Championship on a high note. The 15-member squad has also been announced by the management who will be competing against Bangladesh from 22nd November – 4th December, 2024.

The first test series will take place from 22nd – 26th November, 2024 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium of Antigua and Barbuda. Meanwhile, the second test will place at Sabina Park, Jamaica from 30th November – 4th December, 2024.

Following that, West Indies will compete against Bangladesh in the T20I and ODI series. The ODI series will take place from 8th – 12th December, 2024 at Warner Park, St Kitts and Nevis. On the other hand, the T20I series will be played at Arnos Vale, St Vincent and the Grenadines from 15th -19th December, 2024.
