Cricket: Bangladesh ends 15-year wait with victory in Jamaica

Bangladesh Cricket Team registered a historic victory in Jamaican soil against West Indies, ending their 15-year wait for a win in the country.

The second test series between West Indies and Bangladesh concluded with a victory for the latter by 101 runs. The captains of both the teams lifted the series trophy, sharing the scores with 1-1.

Jaker Ali Anik of Bangladesh delivered a stunning 91-run innings to lead his nation to a commanding victory against the West Indies.

Highlights of the 2nd test series between West Indies and Bangladesh

The series started on 2nd December with Bangladesh winning the toss and deciding to bat first. However, the rain interrupted the game due to which the management decided to reduce the overs to 30 for the opening day.

Windies Kemar Roach struck early with two quick wickets. On the other hand, Shadman Islam scored a half century which steadied the innings on Day 1, ending the day on a positive note for both the teams.

Day 2

The second day of the series began steadily for Bangladesh. However, the Windies bowlers including Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph created several troubles for Bangladesh and bowled out the team on 164.

Jayden Seales was standout performer for the team in Day 2 as he took 4 crucial wickets by giving away only 10 runs. Meanwhile, Joseph sent 3 batters back to the pavilion, giving away 49 runs, bowled at an economy rate of 3.27.

When Windies came to bat, the Captain Kraigg Brathwaite anchored the innings after the early departure of Mikyle Louis, leading the team to scores 70-1 at the end of Day 2.

Day 3

The third day shifted the momentum in favour of Bangladesh as Nahid Rana claimed his first 5-wicket haul and the West Indies crumbled from 85-1 to 146 all out.

In the second innings, Bangladesh batters, Shahadat Hossain, Shadman Islam, Mehidy Hasan made significant contributions to the team, leading his team to a commanding position.

Day 4

Jaker Ali Anik’s 91 run knock added valuable runs for his team and propelled Bangladesh to a strong lead of 286 runs. Meanwhile, the chase of West Indies started at a poor start, with the early departure of Mikyle Louis.

However, Captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Keacy Carty tried to form a solid partnership but Taskin Ahmed provided the breakthrough by dismissing the latter.

Taijul Islam also played a huge role in the fourth day of the series, concluding the Windies innings with his 5-wicket haul.

Player of the Series Award

Bangladesh bowler Taskin Ahmed and Windies bowler Jayden Seales were declared the joint winners of the Player of the Series award. Taskin claimed 11 wickets while Seales took 10 wickets. Both the players expressed excitement and joy on winning the award.

They both expressed their excitement and love for Test cricket and aimed at continuing to make efforts to lead their team towards victory.
