TTPS conducts anti-crime exercise in Western Division, recovers Glock pistol & ammunition

Port of Spain: Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) officers executed several anti-crime exercises in the district of Western Division on Saturday. During the operation, they arrested two suspects and seized a Glock pistol and ammunition.
According to the police reports, one male was being killed in a police-involved shooting incident. The investigating officers are continuing further investigations of the matter. They expressed their commitment to work diligently to combat the problem of an increase in crimes.
Details of the anti-crime exercise
In the first incident, a report was made in the West End Criminal Investigations Department regarding the ‘Robbery with Aggravation.’ The investigating officers, along with the officials of Western Division Gang and Intelligence Unit and Western Division Task Force (WDTF) responded to the matter.
They arrived in the Diego Martin District, where the robbery took place. The officers headed towards the River Estate district. They observed four suspects at the location, with two of them armed with firearms.
As the suspects observed the police, one of them pointed his gun in the direction of the officers. In response, the police made Use of Force Policy and opened fire. As a consequence, one man received an injury to his body and was taken to the St James Medical Facility, while another suspect succumbed to a gunshot wound.
Noting this, the deceased was later recognised as 21-year-old Derron Forde, a resident of Diego Martin. The police detained a second suspect of 18 years of age, Diego Martin. The other two managed to escape the spot.
The police conducted a thorough search of the area, which resulted in the discovery of one Glock pistol loaded with a magazine. It contained 15 rounds of ammunition. Moreover, the officers also seized two cellular phones and a black side bag.
Second Incident
The WDTF ranks executed an anti-crime exercise on Saturday in the Bournes Road at St James. They received a search warrant of a male suspect, due to which they conducted a search of his home.
While searching, they found 41 rounds of assorted ammunition, which was hidden in a peanut butter container. The police officers have arrested a suspect in connection to the finding, who was present on the premises at the time of the search.
The ammunition was taken to the police division, and the male suspect was detained for further inquiries.
Third Incident
The Investigating officers conducted an operation in the district of St James between 9:30 pm to 11 pm on Saturday. The officers found one loaded pistol with a magazine, containing two rounds of ammunition.
The police are searching for a person to whom these items belong. The authorities urged the public to report any information to the police division and assist them in their inquiries.
Additionally, such efforts showcase the dedication and diligence of Trinidad and Tobago Police Services (TTPS) to combat the issue of spike in the criminal activities in the country. The department is implementing every possible measure to fight against such stances of crimes.
