Jamaica’s national arrested for assaulting officials, harassing animals in USA
A national of Jamaica was arrested in the United States for the offence of shooting three police officers, harassing animals and an aggravated assault in Washington DC.

Washington, Jamaica: A national of Jamaica was arrested in the United States for the offence of shooting three police officers, harassing animals and an aggravated assault in Washington DC.
The accused has been identified as 48-year-old Stephen Claude Rattigan. The incident is reported to have occurred on 14th February 2024. He was arrested after the standoff of 12 hours.
As per the details shared by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Stephen Claude Rattigan had been arrested previously for cases such as larceny and for the offence of possessing drugs.
He was also deported to Jamaica in 2001 because of the past criminal records in his name. However, he again entered the United States of America illegally.
According to the reports, one of the citizens namely, Washington Humane Society filed a complaint against Stephen Claude Rattigan for causing harm to animals and treating them inappropriately.
Following the complaint, when the authorities arrived at the place of the accused, Rattigan fired several shots through his front door, which resulted in hitting three officials.
Notably, Stephen Claude Rattigan barricaded himself and refused to come out of his house. However, the officials efforts and determination to punish the culprit paid off and the standoff ended with the apprehension of the accused.
As per the reports, three charges were laid on Rattigan which include, assault on a police officer, cruelty to animals and aggravated assault.
The residents of the community took to their social media accounts and raised their concerns about the increasing crime rates, as well as expressed their views about the news.
One person with a Facebook account Marcus Curtis commented “Prison him now. how he is a disgrace to society and he must be held accountable for his crimes.”
Another person with a Facebook handle Leon Bernard commented the following “Rattigan” Is he related to that PNP activist who is spying for Cuba and creating disturbances all over Florida and New York?”
Such increasing rates of crime are a huge cause of concern for the residents of the country, as a surge in criminal activities indicates a threat to the safety and security of the nation. The citizens have requested the administration to take some stringent measures in order to tackle increasing crime rates and ensure the safety and security of the citizens.
