PM Dickon Mitchell to travel Carriacou to offer assistance to affected individuals

The Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell will travel to Carriacou to offer assistance and provide relief supplies to its citizens in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.

Grenada: The Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell will travel to Carriacou to offer assistance and provide relief supplies to its citizens in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Beryl. The leader will be accompanied by the National Disaster Management Agency and the other officials in order to provide a hand of support in these difficult times.

Hurricane Beryl which made landfall has caused widespread damage leaving residents without homes, electricity and essential supplies. Following the devastation, PM Mitchell stated that the situation has become a huge cause of concern and it requires the immediate attention. He further asserted that all the efforts are required to support the sister islands.

While asking for the support, the Government of Grenada stated that they are collecting essential relief items for the people who are harshly affected in Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The PM noted that donations of non-perishable foods, hygiene products, baby and adult diapers, bottled water are urgently needed and a contribution of these needs would be a huge relief for the island nation.

The citizens can bring their contributions to the Grenada Yacht Club today as the loading will begin by 8:00 am and it will depart by 10:00 am. Notably, Sylvan McIntyre will be the focal point for the Carriacou Relief Operation which will be supported by Dr. Terrence Walters of NaDMA and members of the public and private sectors.

Along with that, the representatives from the Ministry of Health, Housing Authority of Grenada, public utilities and the Grenada Information Service will also travel with the team in order to assess the damage and provide aid and psychosocial support to the affected individuals.

Grenada remains to be in a State of Emergency until July 7, 2024, and citizens are encouraged to take the necessary precautions in order to prioritize their safety and security.

Moreover, the administration of Grenada is making diligent efforts in order to bring the situation back to the normal. As, recently electricity has been restored in several of the areas, which include Maurice Bishop International Airport, Morne Rouge, St. George’s University, Lance Aux Epines, Belmont (St. George), West Feeder (including the General Hospital), Tanteen, and Lowthers Lane.

The restoration efforts are ongoing to ensure that power is restored and provided back to all the impacted areas. PM Mitchell stated that his government is committed to bring relief to the affected areas and assess all the damages that has occurred in Carriacou and Petite Martinique because of Beryl.
