Nicholas Pooran, a Trinidadian cricketer, currently part of the West Indies cricket team is the only West Indies player to be named in the recently wrapped ICC World Cup’s Team-of-the-Tournament along with several world-class cricketers like Rohit Sharma, Rashid Khan, Jasprit Bumrah and a few more.
The left-handed batter/ wicketkeeper, Nicholas Pooran finished his part in the ICC Men’s World Cup 2024, with a total run of at an average of 38. He maintained a strike rate of 146 throughout the tournament with the highest score to be 98 runs of just 53 balls.
The 29 years old cricketer made his national team debut in the U-19 Regional Tournament, 2012 at the age of only 16 years. Prior to that, Pooran also represented the Trinidad and Tobago team at various under-age and schoolboys’ tournaments. He made his debut for the West Indies U19 team in October 2013 playing a bilateral series against Bangladesh, and later went on to represent West Indies at the 2014 U19 World Cup.
Pooran holds the record of three consecutive half centuries at international level at the West indies tour of India in February 2022. He scored 60+ runs in all the three matches but unfortunately couldn’t lead the team to victory.
Nicholas Pooran also holds the record to make it to the top six in the list of most sixes in career with 132 sixes.
In the ICC World Cup 2024, Pooran marked the tournament with a remarkable innings against Afghanistan, scoring a total of 98 runs with eight sixes and half a dozen fours, in just 53 balls. His remarkable performance helped West Indies to patch a victory against Afghanistan by 104 runs in their final game of the group stage.
With this impactful record and performances Pooran and several of the players in the West Indies team have made it loud and clear to the world that the West Indies cricket team is tough and growing even stronger and would pose a threat to the other teams in the coming future.
The Champions of the World Cup, India got the highest count of six players in the Team of the Tournament lineup with Captain Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh making to the list.
Other than the mentioned, Afghanistan Captain, leg spinner Rashid Khan, left arm seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi and batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz also made to the list. South African speedster Anrich Nortje along with Marcus Stoinis also joined the list.
Rohit Sharma with a over whelming performance throughout the tournament with three half centuries along with the new ball spell seamers Jasprit Bumrah (15 wickets) and Arshdeep Singh (17 wickets) led team India to a glorifying victory.
