Saint Lucia: Dept of Cooperatives to launch Cooperative Model – School Mascot Design Challenge

Castries, Saint Lucia: The Department of Cooperatives will be launching its Cooperative Model – School Mascot Design Challenge. The theme for the model will be Alé Douvan, in keeping with this year’s Independence theme—depicting a positive progression of our people. The announcement was shared by the Ministry of Commerce of Saint Lucia on May 5, 2023 (Friday).

The ministry has informed that the model will focus on the children aged between 10 to 13 years. The primary school children between the ages of ten (10) and 13 (thirteen) are encouraged to submit designs of their understanding of a pictorial representation of the Cooperative Model’s attributes.

According to the update by the Ministry of Commerce, the deadline for submissions is June 30, 2023 (Friday).

Accordingly, the winning design will be replicated and worn by the mascot during upcoming promotional activities. Three Credit Unions have partnered with the Department of Cooperatives to award amazing electronic prizes for the best designs.

The aim of the challenge is to instill a renewed and heightened appreciation for the Cooperative Business Model, its origins and continued philosophical focus on “people helping people.”

In conclusion, the ministry mentioned, “We anticipate that families will fully embrace this activity—assisting students with research while having fun learning and exploring the global successes of this more than 100-year-old Business Model; especially in the areas of agriculture and fisheries.”

It also noted that the Cooperative Model emphasizes entrepreneurship, savings, self-reliance and is a model for driving the Sustainable Development Goals.
