Julien Alfred named Athlete of the Year 2024 in Athletics Weekly

Olympian Julien Alfred has been named as the ‘Athlete of the Year’ in UK’s famous Athletics Weekly magazine. 

Alfred, who is a double medallist, and Saint Lucia’s sprint queen defeated several famous athletes including Belgium’s Nafi Thiam of Belgium, Netherland Sifan Hassan among others. 

This acknowledgement by the distinguished magazine added yet another accolade to Julien Alfred’s collection of achievements.

2024: Season of achievements for Julien Alfred

Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred had a spectacular year in respect to her athletic career as she registered some notable achievements and recognition to her name.

She began 2024 by winning world indoor 60m gold in Glasgow and the 100 metres title at the Wanda Diamond League. She later went on to win Olympic 100m gold and 200m silver.

Notably, Julien Alfred has etched her name in the history by becoming the first-ever athlete from Saint Lucia to win the Olympic Gold and Silver medal. She bagged gold medal for her nation in 100m by clocking the time of 10.72 seconds.

Alfred outpaced Sha’Carri Richardson, the US athlete and reigning world champion to win the medal. Not only this, she has also secured first-ever Olympic silver medal, finished 2nd in 200m at the Summer Olympics in Paris.

Awards bagged by Julien Alfred

Saint Lucia’s Olympic Champion and first-ever gold medallist, Julien Alfred’s achievement is not just limited to this. As, she was also awarded the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) Sports Awards last month.

She bagged two awards including, the Caribbean Female Sports Personality of the Year and the Caribbean Breakthrough Award for her remarkable achievements throughout the year.
