A Jamaican man has been shot dead in Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday night after visiting a friend in the town of Diego Martin in the twin-island republic.

Kingston, Jamaica: A Jamaican man has been shot dead in Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday night after visiting a friend in the town of Diego Martin in the twin-island republic.
The deceased has been identified as a 28-year-old Akeem Thompson.
What happened with Thompson?
As per the reports, 28-year-old Jamaican went to one of his friend’s house at Cuthbert Circular in Four Roads, Diego Martin, nearly at 7 pm. Then after an hour later, Thompson left the premises and gunshots were heard by the people of that area.
After which, a passerby found Thompson lying on the ground with gunshot wounds and the police officials were immediately informed.
The 28-year-old was declared dead at the crime scene by a district medical officer, according to the reports. The matter is being investigated by the – Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region I in Trinidad.
No further information has been provided by the Police authorities yet, and nor any remarks have been made.
In the year of 2018, the homicide rate in Jamaica was 47/100,000 residents, and 2019 saw an increase of 3.4 per cent. This is three times higher than the average for Latin America and the Caribbean region.
Forbes Magazine had listed Jamaica as the third-most dangerous place for women travellers in the year of 2017.
As per the statistics, there were more than 536 murders recorded in Trinidad and Tobago in the year of 2019. While in the year, the highest homicide rate among 22 Latin American and Caribbean countries surveyed was in Jamaica, with around 46.5 murders committed per 100,000 inhabitants.
Venezuela was placed at the second position, with a homicide rate of 45.6, while Honduras ranked third, with 37.6. In the same year, the lowest crime rate was recorded in Nicaragua, with a homicide rate of 3.5 per 100,000 inhabitants.
