The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J. Pierre announced to gift XCD $1,000,000 and a plot of land of her choice measuring 10, 720 square feet.

Saint Lucia celebrates Julien Alfred Day, honours Olympic medallist with $1M, plot of land

Saint Lucia celebrated Julien Alfred Day and the government honoured the historic victory of the sprinter at the 2024 Summer Olympics, where she won Gold in the women’s 100m and Silver in the 200m race. Every Lucian enjoyed this magical night and celebrated the historic achievement of their national hero, Julien Alfred.

Along with celebrating her achievement, she was bestowed with several honours. The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J. Pierre announced to gift XCD $1,000,000 and a plot of land of her choice measuring 10, 720 square feet.

Along with that, the Prime Minister also announced to rename the Millennium Highway to the name of their Olympic hero and that will be now called as Julien Alfred Highway. The authorities also announced to construct a monument in her honour at the new Cul de Sac Roundabout and a commemorative exercise book with photos.

PM Pierre also announced to issue an official Julien Alfred stamp in honour of her achievement at the Paris Olympics 2024. The Prime Minister stated that Alfred has made her entire countrymen proud of her accomplishment and has given a recognition to the island nation on the global map.

You have inspired our nation and made us proud. Thank you, Ms. Alfred,” noted PM Pierre.

Moreover, the Tourism Ambassador of Saint Lucia and their sprint queen extended gratitude to the Government of Saint Lucia for putting on an amazing 4 days event so she can be on island celebrating with all the citizens on their first 2 Olympic medals.

She also thanked her sponsors, Puma, Body Holiday and First National Bank for supporting her journey and get helping her to get to this point in her career.

She also acknowledged the entire crowd filled with her fans and supporters and stated “the support that I have been receiving from all of you means a lot to me, it means the world to me, and I’m going to try to not cry tonight.”

 “But to Saint Lucia, my people, I love all of you. I thank you for the support. I thank you for the love that you showed me throughout my career. I just want to thank you for the support that I’ve been receiving.”

Alfred further ensured that she will continue to represent Saint Lucia on the global stage through sports and also becoming now the tourism ambassador of the country. She added that she will continue to make every possible effort to put her country on the global map.

She also asked all the citizens of the country to extend this support which she has received towards the youth of the country which are the future generation and keeps the ability to represent Saint Lucia on the global stage.

Moreover, the Tourism Minister of Saint Lucia, Ernest Hilaire shared the glimpses of the celebratory night for Alfred. He stated that the last night was a truly spectacular moment in the history of Saint Lucia, one that we will never forget.

He added that the government of Saint Lucia is satisfied that through good governance, they were able to provide what they consider “fitting” for a national hero. The Minister stated that their commitment to the Tourism Ambassador does not stop there as they we will continue to provide their continuous support to them in whichever way they can.
