Melanie Damishanam arrested for possessing ammunition

The authorities of Guyana apprehended a 46-year-old for the offence of possessing ammunition. The incident took place on Saturday, 13th January 2024, at Norton Street, Wortmanville. It is to be noted that the suspect was charged under the operation conducted by the officials.
The suspect has been identified as Melanie Damishanam, a 46-year-old and a resident of East Coast Demerara, Guyana.
As per the information, the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit of Guyana held an exercise in Norton Street, Wortmanville. During the operation, they conducted a search for a man. While conducting the search, the officers discovered various types of ammunition from Melanie Damishanam.
The suspect, Melanie Damishanam, was arrested by Guyana officials and subsequently taken to the Headquarters of Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit. Along with that, the officers seized all the ammunition found from Melanie Damishanam and were also escorted to the headquarters.
It is to be further added the ammunition found by the CANU officer includes,
- Eleven (11) 9mm
- One (1) .223
- A total of twelve (12)
Notably, the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit handed over the suspect, Melanie Damishanam, as well as the ammunition discovered from the man to the Guyana Police Force. The higher-ranked officers will continue with the process of investigation and will look thoroughly into the matter.
The residents of Guyana also expressed their views on the matter through their comments on Facebook. One of the people with a Facebook account named Mortimus Trim commented the following: “Too big to get caught up in nonsense bro, mere possession is an offence, and jail time is just moments away. Don’t blame the system, and don’t blame anyone. Two consecutive 36 months in your pocket.”
While some other people appreciated the higher-ranked authorities of Guyana and are expecting that the suspect would get punished for the offence he committed. The Guyana Police Service has also promised that they will follow all the stringent steps to combat the increasing rate of crimes to ensure the security and safety of the citizens of the country.
