The couple of Guyana are in custody in relation to the gun and ammunition found from them on Saturday, 30 December 2023.

Notably, the Police ranks were on anti-crime patrol duty in their police vehicle on Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown at around 10:15 hrs. Subsequently, they observed a 23-year-old man, John Moore an unemployed resident of East La Penitence who was holding an AR rifle in his right hand and a haversack on his back.

As soon as, Moore saw the authorities, he tried to run away and escape from there and began to run in the Southern direction. He then turned in the West direction and ran into his yard, where he quickly took off the haversack from his back.

It is to be noted the suspect placed the AR rifle into the bag and threw it into a yard. The yard was owned by a 59-year-old security guard. The higher-ranked officers tried to chase Moore and arrested me in connection with the rifle.

Moreover, the bag was picked up by the officers and they found various things in it, which includes:

  • AR rifle
  • A magazine containing 19 live .223 ammunition
  • .223 spent shell
  • A Glock 9 mm pistol with an empty magazine
  • .32 magazine without ammunition

Further, the bag also contained Visa and Bank cards from Republic Bank, GBTI, Demerara Bank and Citizen’s Bank and one National Identification card, all of which were in favour of Moore’s reputed wife, Mellissa Lindo.

Mellissa Lindo is a 21-year-old businesswoman who is operating a boutique at their home address in East La Penitence.

Furthermore, the bag also contained one National Identification card of Mellissa’s mother, Karen Lindo and a Republic Bank Visa Card in favour of Mellissa’s 23-year-old brother Rayon Alves. The bag was also containing US$65, one motorcar sensor, one yellow metal chain and one cell phone.

The police authorities asked Moore if he had the license to carry all the firearms and to that the suspect replied “No”. Therefore, he was told of the offences committed by him and cautioned him for the same.

The firearms, ammunition and magazines which were found in the haversack were marked, sealed and lodged and were taken to the Ballistics section for their examination.

The rest of the things found in the bag were also lodged. Mellissa is also arrested by the officers for questioning purposes. The investigation is still continuing into the matter by the authorities.
