Guyanese Cricketer Shamar Joseph signed at USD 90K for IPL 2025

Guyanese cricketer Shamar Joseph has been auctioned for USD 90,000 at the Indian Premier League. 

The 25-year-old famously known for his aggressive bowling style was picked by the Lucknow Super Giants during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction in Saudi Arabia.

Notably, the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held from 14 March to 25 May 2025.

2nd IPL Season for Shamar Joseph

This would be the 2nd consecutive year for Shamar Joseph in the Indian Premier League. Initially, during his debut, he was signed by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a mid-season as the replacement for English cricketer, Mark Wood. 

He earlier came to an agreement with LSG in IPL 2024 in a deal of about USD 3 million. Shedding light on their decision of re-purchasing Shamar Joseph, the owners of LSG said that his ability to take crucial wickets would turn out to be the X factor for their team.

Shamar Joseph delighted to return to LSG

Shamar Joseph shared excitement on his return to the LSG squad. He mentioned the crucial lessons; he has learnt in the last year. Shamar said that he is once again all set to make the most of this opportunity by contributing for the development of his team.

Along with that, the Sophie Claire Management Agency also congratulated the player and called it a ‘well retained strategy’ applied by the owners of LSG.

Indian Premier League

The Indian Premier League is a T20 cricket and is considered as one of the most renowned cricket leagues in the world. 

It is a contest between 10 city-based franchise teams and is organized by the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) annually. The tournament will run from 14th March to 25th May 2025, where 10 teams will compete in around 74 matches to claim the ultimate trophy.

Lucknow SuperGiants

Lucknow Super Giants is one of the 10 teams competing in the Indian Premier League. The team was established in 2021 by the Chairman, Sanjiv Goenka, a billionaire business tycoon from India.

The Lucknow Super Giants used the Right-To-Match (RTM) card to retain their player, Joseph. As per the details, RTM Card is used when the teams could simply match a winning bid to retain their player.

Expressing joy on the return of Joseph to their squad, the official social media handle of the team shared his picture, welcoming him, with the caption in the Hindi tone stating, “With Shamar, it’s always Khushi never gham, (With Shamar it’s always happiness, never sadness)

The squad selected by Lucknow Super Giants include a combination of experienced and fresh talents. The players included in the squad are, Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram, Rishabh Pant, Mitchell Marsh and many others.
