The European vessel, Oceania Nautica brought over passengers and crew members in over a count of 1000, at the Port of Bridgetown, Barbados in its inaugural call on Wednesday.
All the passengers and crew members on board enjoyed and explored the beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, delicious food and several other offerings of the country.
Oceania Nautica’s current cruise is on a 36-day one-way voyage from Montreal to Miami, which began on 28th October, 2024 and will end on December 3, 2024.
Celebration of Inaugural visit by Oceania Nautica
The first ever visit of Oceania Nautica to Bridgetown was celebrated with a plaque exchange ceremony on board the European vessel.
The ceremony was attended by several delegates including the Chief Product Development Officer of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. Marsha Alleyne, Kevyn Yearwood, Managing Director Platinum Port Agency and several members of the media.
Shedding light on the inaugural visit by the vessel, the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc.’s Chief Product Development Officer, Marsha Alleyne said that they are pleased to mark another inauguration milestone by welcoming Nautica to their shores.
Thriving Tourism Industry
Sharing their vision for the 2024/2025 winter cruise season, Marsha Alleyne noted that they are expected to have 398 cruise calls with an estimated total of bringing around 698,580 cruise passengers.
She added that these figures represent a remarkable growth in their cruise tourism sector which outlines that they are not only recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic but thriving.
Officer Alleyne also highlighted about the recent surge of 10,470 passengers recorded by them in the 2024-2025 cruise season. She added that this remarkable growth shed light on the confidence of the cruise ships in Barbados and their ability to provide exceptional services.
She further appreciated the diverse offerings of the country and said that Barbados has something to offer to all their attendees, whether they are seeking an adventure or a romantic trip.
Oceania Nautica
Oceania Nautica is the 594 feet cruise ship which was built in 2000 in a shipyard in France. The vessel has the facility to carry 624 passengers and 396 crew members.
The vessel is known for its exceptional facilities and amenities including, spa, theatre productions, live music, casino games, wine and martini tastings and dancing and many more.
Captain of Oceania Nautica thanked Barbados Tourism Authority
The Staff Captain of the Oceania Nautica, Ante Vidovic extended gratitude to the tourism authority of Barbados. He expressed his happiness on making the first inaugural call to Barbados and hoped to continue to make many calls to the country.
“It’s very nice to be here in your beautiful island of Barbados,” said the captain.
Significant tourism boom in single day
On Wednesday, the tourism authority also welcomed several other vessels as well to the nation, marking a significant boost in the tourism sector.
Celebrity Cruises Summit, Evrima, Queen Mary 2, and Wind Spirit are all the vessels that were docked at the shores of the country on the same day, brought around 6000 passengers to the island nation.
