Guyana Police seizes 559 grams of cannabis, arrests 3 individuals

Guyana: The Guyana Police Service arrested three individuals for the offence of possessing 559 grams of cannabis. This apprehension has taken place during a ‘Cordon and Search’ operation conducted by the officers at New Street, Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice on 4th August 2024.
As per the details, the Police in Region Six held a search of the house which was occupied at the time by three individuals, two men, aged 27 and 28 and a 24-year-old female. While conducting the search, initially the officers found nothing illegal.
However, a further search was conducted by one of the ranked officers near the said premises i.e. at an abandoned lot. During the search of the area, the authorities found two bulky transparent parcels. Upon checking the parcels, the authorities found a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The suspected cannabis was later weighed by the authorities and it amounted to a total of 559 grams. Following such discovery, the authorities arrested three individuals and are currently in custody and the officers are continuing with their investigation.
Following such discovery, the netizens flooded the social media with their comments and expressed their views on this news. One person commented “Good job on the authorities, does not matter how much quantity they were possessing, whether it was more or less, they are guilty so they should be punished.”
Another person wrote “I don’t understand, why people are dealing with such narcotic substances, because of such people only, the youth of this country are getting involved in such criminal activities. Feeling bad for the progress of the nation.”
Moreover, the authorities of Guyana also shared their views and have stated that they are committed towards protecting the citizens of the country. They stated that they are planning to conduct workshops so that it can play a huge role in guiding the youth and the other individuals about the harmful impacts of drug related activities and the measures that can be taken in order to make country, a drug-free nation.
