Guyana: 41-year-old arrested for possessing 895 grams of marijuana

Georgetown, Guyana: The authorities from Enmore Police Station held a cordon and search exercise and nabbed 895 grams of suspected marijuana. The officers arrested a 41-year-old construction worker from Haslington, East Coast Demerara, in connection to those findings.

As per the details shared by the authorities, they acted on the information received and visited Lot 91 Haslington New Housing Scheme, ECD. Upon reaching there, they observed a man standing in front of the yard, holding a bulky plastic bag in his hand.

As soon as the man saw the officers, he tried to run into the yard and attempted to escape the area. However, he was chased by the police and was apprehended with the plastic bag in his hand. During the exercise, authorities conducted a search of the bag and found a compressed parcel and ten small transparent Ziplock bags, including leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Following the discovery of marijuana, the authorities told the 41-year-old suspect of the offence he had committed and arrested him. A further search was conducted on his home and in the yard, but no additional narcotic was found from the establishment.

The suspect was later taken to the Cove and John Police Station, where they weighed the suspected marijuana and it amounted to 895 grams. After the case went viral on social media, residents of the community flooded it with their views and opinions.

One person wrote “Great job officers, keep on doing such operations, it is really needed to stop crime rates in the nation.”

Another person commented the following: “Why the hell are drug cases increasing so rapidly in this nation? Strict actions need to be taken to halt all this. Take action officers.”

The residents of the community have requested the administration to implement stringent laws and policies with a vision to tackle the increasing crime rate. The administration has stated that they are coming up with innovative plans in order to control the over-possession of drugs.
