Trinidad: Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley visited the field hospital located at Jean Pierre Complex, Port of Spain. A 2nd field hospital is located at the Couva Hospital, along with a multi training facility. The hospitals have been established to support the health facilities in this COVID-19 pandemic.

Each field hospital is entirely self-sufficient and insulated, outfitted with sanitary conveniences, includes an administrative station and station for doctors and nurses and has a water distribution system for both potable and non-potable water inclusive of pumps.

The US government donated these hospitals. They arrived in Trinidad and Tobago last month following an agreement made with the US government in September 2020.

The administration stated that that field hospital located at the Jean Pierre complex would be operationalized within the next 48-72 hours.

The Government asked for the field hospitals, and the US Embassy expedited their delivery and set up with the assistance of the Defence Force. Prime Minister Keith Rowley stated that the hospitals could be used to provide essential medical services in the event of a disaster once the coronavirus is over.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, US consulate Shante Moore and Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh also toured the field hospital at the Jean Pierre Complex.

Moore officially transferred ownership of the hospitals to the Government and commended Dr Rowley on his ongoing efforts to deal with the pandemic, saying everyone must work together to stop the spread of covid19.

The embassy said the US Government continued to partner with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago in its national covid19 response efforts by donating the hospitals, valued at US$1.5 million or $10.2 million.
