ANR Robinson International Airport to curb human trafficking: PM Keith Rowley
PM Rowley responded to the questions asked to him in the lower house and stated that he is pleased to announce that new airport terminal building will have special facilities which will play a pivotal role in reducing or eliminating treatment trafficking.

The new ANR Robinson International Airport of Trinidad and Tobago is expected to be the country’s strongest defence against human trafficking at any port of entry. This announcement was made by the Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley in the House of Representatives on Friday, 20th September, 2024.
PM Rowley responded to the questions asked to him in the lower house and stated that he is pleased to announce that new airport terminal building will have special facilities which will play a pivotal role in reducing or eliminating treatment trafficking.
He further added, “any and all persons engaged in such criminal conduct will know that the Tobago airport terminal building is not at least frequent in bringing in the victims of human trafficking.”
While shedding light on the further details, the Prime Minister, Keith Rowley stated that the construction of the terminal is 74% complete and is expected to be entirely completed by the early 2025.
Notably, this expansion of the airport will play a huge role in boosting private investment in Tobago due to improved transport links. This new terminal being developed in the airport is also expected to contribute to an increase in air travel services to Tobago.
Also, it will enhance the capacity of the flight services to and from Tobago which will further play a huge role in generating large number of job opportunities for the citizens and boosting the overall tourism sector of the nation.
The Prime Minister Keith Rowley stated that they have faced several delays with respect to amendments and adjustments.
“I think it was affected by COVID as well. But the bottom line is we are well on schedule now,” noted PM Keith Rowley.
Till date, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago has paid US$65 million (TT$422 million) to the contractor, China Railway Construction (Caribbean) Company Ltd for the project. Additionally, TT$300 million was also spent on land acquisition before the construction began on the airport.
Moreover, the Prime Minister was also asked about potential issues with the structure, to which he dismissed them, stating there is nothing to be concerned about.
Expansion details of the ANR Robinson International Airport
This project involves the construction of a new, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified passenger terminal area for the purpose of domestic and international operations. It also includes several expansions such as construction of a new car park, taxiway, apron, and ramp.
This expansion in the airport would play a significant role in minimizing environmental impact and ensuring the sustainability of the airport.
The Prime Minister Keith Rowley stated that they are still adamant on their commitment of expanding the airport facilities and improving the level of customer service delivery and enhancing the attractiveness of destination Tobago.
