Take COVID-19 jab before country runs out of vaccine: PM Harris

In light of global shortage of vaccines, PM Harris urged people to continue to use wisdom and get vaccinated as soon as it is possible for them.

St Kitts and Nevis: Across the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis people are using numerous opportunities to be vaccinated within their communities. Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris welcomed the continued vaccination of communities at the Sylvia Garnette Primary Health Care Facility on May 15, 2021, while calling for even more people to stop the hesitation and be vaccinated now that the vaccine is still free and accessible.

Prime Minister said that the vaccination drive is an effort to assure that as many people are able to access the COVID-19 vaccine in a manner that is convenient to them. He added that the government has moved from six centres in total when the vaccination drive was initially started to 11 victim unity-based health centres in St Kitts and additional 6 centres in Nevis to administer COVID-19 vaccination.

“Notwithstanding, the Ministry has put in place a mobile unit that goes to workplaces to provide vaccine to all the individuals at the place. The broader good is that we protect people from becoming severely ill or worse yet dying as a result of global pandemic,” said PM Harris.

St Kitts and Nevis is among the countries which have received international praise for wise management of the COVID-19 pandemic as the country has not reported a single death since the outbreak of coronavirus. The current situation is credited to the government’s robust management and early implementation of safety protocols to ensure the safety and security of citizens and the residents of the country.

Prime Minister Timothy Harris emphasised and highlighted the record 800 persons who received their vaccine on May 14 and continued his advocacy for persons to get inoculated against the deadly virus. However in light of global shortage of vaccines, PM Harris urged people to continue to use wisdom and get vaccinated as soon as it is possible for them.

He added that people must get vaccinated before it is too late for them. “With the vaccine shortage around the world there is no promise that the vaccine supply will be readily available to everyone whenever they make their choice. The wisdom then dictates that people must take vaccine now when it is available and free of cost for everyone.”

According to statistics provided by the government, a total number of 17,040 vaccine doses have been administered in St Kitts and Nevis.
