President Irfaan Ali announces hike by 6.5% in wages of public servants
The President, Irfaan Ali has stated that another increase in wages and salaries of public servants by 6.5 per cent. It is to be noted that less than a month after the People’ Progressive Party (PPP) government cogitatively increased their wages.

Georgetown, Guyana: The President, Irfaan Ali has stated that another increase in wages and salaries of public servants by 6.5 per cent. It is to be noted that less than a month after People’s Progressive Party (PPP) government cogitatively increased their wages.
Notably, the President made this disclosure during his New Year message, which was broadcast on January 1, 2024, on social media.
“Workers will continue to benefit from an increase in their wages and salaries, augmenting the other measures which we will take to enhance household disposable income”, President Ali said in his message.
Moreover, since taking office in 2020, the PPP government has given an increase in the salaries of public servants by 21.5 per cent.
As per the President’s announcement, the Minister of Finance will be presenting the 2024 budget, which will list several features by President Ali.
Further, the head of the state said that the people of Guyana would benefit from improved and transformed infrastructure and public services, including housing, water and education.
Noting this, significant investment will be made in the education sector to achieve the goal of free university education by 2025. This promise was made by the PPP during the 2020 election campaign.
“Cost of living interventions will be made to cushion any spike in prices in our economy, we want to put more money into the pockets of our people”, the leader of the state said.
He further added that the government will continue to work tirelessly for the upliftment of the Guyanese people in the coming year.
Moreover, he remarked, “My government pledged to improve the lives of our people and we are honouring that promise. The fruits of our collective efforts are beginning to ripen. The future of Guyana is bright and promising. We have set Guyana on a course of sustained growth and prosperity. This new year 2024, we will see us advance more rapidly along this path as we shape the destiny of present and future generations.”
