PM Terrance Drew visits SVG and promise to stand in solidarity

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew made his visit to St Vincent and the Grenadines in order to assess the damages caused in the island nation due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Beryl.

While talking about the pictures which PM Drew captured while flying over Union Island, he stated that the conditions in the country are purely devastated. He stated that climate change is a very sensitive topic which gives a clear message to all that they must be prepared for it and take some preventive measures in order to avoid the devastating effects caused due to it.

He continued to emphasize the urgent need for climate justice that addresses the disproportionate impacts of climate change on vulnerable Caribbean states. PM Drew asserted that they have started their preparedness and they will continue to do so with a vision to secure and protect the lives and livelihoods of the citizens of the country. Therefore, he asked everyone to come together as a people and a country to fight against such difficult times.

The leader of the nation also remarked that he stands in solidarity with his brothers and sisters in the affected islands. Moreover, the Prime Minister was accompanied by all other leaders of the OECS, and they all extended their support to the government and the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines during their challenging times.

The leaders who accompanied him to St Vincent and the Grenadines include, Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Philip J Pierre and Prime Minister of Cayman Islands, Juliana O’ Connor-Connolly.

Their visit showcases a strong show of regional solidarity in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl. These united efforts by the leaders also shed light on the strength and resilience of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) as they work together to rebuild and support each other in their time of need.

In the last week, PM Terrance Drew also made his visit to Grenada along with his fellow leaders and assessed the destruction caused due to Hurricane Beryl. He reiterated his commitment to continue to extend their support to the neighbouring nations who are coping with the devastating damage of then Category-4 storm, Hurricane Beryl.
