Trinidad and Tobago commemorate Indian Arrival Day, celebrates East Indian ancestors

Trinidad and Tobago: Trinidad and Tobago commemorate the Indian Arrival Day by celebrating the remarkable journey and enduring legacy of East Indian ancestors who arrived on the shores of the island nation 179 years ago.

The day acknowledges the courage and resilience of those people who journeyed thousands of miles from India and contributed to the rich and multicultural tapestry of Trinidad and Tobago. Every year, the Indian Arrival Day is celebrated on the 30^th of May in Trinidad and Tobago.

This crucial date not only marks the inaugural voyage of the vessel Fatel Razack but also signifies heritage, resilience and the impact of Indian immigrants on the economic and cultural landscape.

Moreover, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Keith Rowley also extended congratulations on the auspicious occasion of Indian Arrival Day 2024. While shedding light on the history of the day, PM Rowley stated that as citizens, everyone needs to understand the struggles of the forefathers of the land. He added that everyone needs to look back into the nation’s history so that the citizens can approach collective future with greater clarity and confidence.

He further noted that all the citizens should celebrate the strength showcased by several generations of the Indian community over the past 179 years. He traced back to the history of those ancestors and stated that “one must marvel at the bold, daring risk they undertook.”

PM Rowley asserted that some of those ancestors were agriculture workers, some were from labouring class who left their homes and travelled thousands of miles away.

Along with that, PM Keith Rowley also extended congratulations to the Christian community on the occasion of the Holy feast of Corpus Christi. The celebration connects to the commemoration of the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ which symbolizes the blood and body.

The leader of the nation added that as citizens, everyone should extend gratitude to God for his abiding presence and asked the residents to renew their faith, devotion and surrender them completely to the greatness of God.
