VincyMas 2024 commences: Celebrates vibrant culture and events

The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) announced that in a discussion with Cabinet and the components of Vincymas, the decision was made to proceed with an abridged version of Vincymas from July 6 to July 9, Saturday to Tuesday.

Due to the adverse effects of the hurricane Beryl, the Vincymas 2024 was to undergo changes. The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) announced that in a discussion with Cabinet and the components of Vincymas, the decision was made to proceed with an abridged version of Vincymas from July 6 to July 9, Saturday to Tuesday.

An abridged version of the festival will take place after the hurricane Beryl caused noticeable destruction in and around the region of St Vincent and the Grenadines and interrupted the culmination of carnival festivals in the island.

The CDC expressed that it believes that all the stakeholders are in unique state to provide support and also to leverage Vincymas, either financially or in-kind, aiming to assist the numerous people affected by the storm. While announcing the decision made, CDC also acknowledged the destruction brought by Beryl.

The Chief Executive Officer of the CDC, Ashford Wood, said it was important for the festival to continue in some form. “We believe all stakeholders are in a unique position to leverage Vincymas to provide support, whether through financial or in-kind contributions, to assist the countless persons affected by Hurricane Beryl,” he stated.

Vincymas is of such paramount cultural importance to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The decision taken to go on with the event even if in a reduced format, highlights the tenacity and community spirit of the citizens of St Vincent and the Grenadines. The CDC expressed their gratitude towards the population for their patience and support during this challenging period.
