The Colorado State University (CSU) issued an ominous warning as it released its forecast for the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which it said will be “extremely active”, with 23 named storms expected, out of which 11 are expected to mature into Hurricanes.

The University has also warned that 5 of these weather systems will most likely develop into major Hurricanes, making their way into Category 3 or above in the hurricane nomenclature.

The disturbing reality is that a recent forecast issued by AccuWeather, a private entity based in the United States, concurs with the predictions made by Colorado State University. This has brought many institutions and observers within the field on the same page as they agree that 20-25 named storms can definitely be expected this season, which would bring the level of activity well above average measures.

In the summer and autumn seasons, the transition to La Niña conditions will result in an extremely active hurricane season as stated by the Colorado State University (CSU).

The University also issued the following statement, “Sea surface temperatures in the eastern and central Atlantic are currently at record warm levels and are anticipated to remain well above average for the upcoming hurricane season. A warmer-than-normal tropical Atlantic provides a more conducive dynamic and thermodynamic environment for hurricane formation and intensification.”

The University has also warned residents living in areas which are to make preparations for the incoming hurricane activity so as to preserve life and property. The Atlantic Hurricane Season is scheduled to begin on the 1st of June and will come to a close on the 30th of November.

La Nina is slated to develop significantly which will spur Atlantic Hurricane Activity due to a decrease in Caribbean Atlantic vertical wind shear.
