Three Yarrowkabra residents arrested for illegal gun, ammo possession

Georgetown, Guyana: Three Yarrowkabra residents named Amos Emmanuel, age 22, Bryan Khan, age 28 and Alwyn James, age 27, were arrested on the charges of breaking and entering illegal gun and ammo possession.

It is to be noted that Emmanuel and Khan were identified to be from Yarrowkabra at Soesdyke/ Linden Highway. They were arrested last week and charged on Tuesday for the offence of Break-and-Enter-and Larceny committed in the dwelling house of Mohamed Hack.

The above-mentioned incident occurred on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. Notably, the charge was laid contrary to Section 229 (a) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.

Further, the accused appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court, who read the charge to them. However, the two suspected, Emmanuel and Khan, pleaded not guilty.

Their bail was not approved and denied, and they were both taken into custody. The matter is now adjourned to January 19, 2024.

Noting this, these two accused men were also charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm without License (one. 38 Revolver), and the incident occurred on December 29, 2023, at Yarrowkabra at Soesdyke/Linden Highway.

Again, they both pleaded not guilty and their bail was denied. They were remanded to the prison.

Notably, they were also charged with the Unlawful Possession of Ammunition without a License (a quantity of .38 Ammunition). For this time, they also pleaded not guilty, and bail was denied.

Meanwhile, James was arrested last week and charged on Wednesday for the offence of Unlawful Possession of Ammunition without License (thirty-one (31) live 12-gauge cartridges).

The accused appeared in the same court before Magistrate Latchman and pleaded not guilty. He is supposed to appear in court on January 19, 2024.

As soon as this news spread to the social media platform, many people took to their official Facebook handle to share their opinions.

A person named as Dave K Dundas commented, “Young Health and strong, now you going to prison to and sit and waste all your time. Fellas before doing a crime think of the consequences and embarrassment you have to go through plus the shame you will caused your family.”

While reacting to the post, another person by the name of Michael Gwenden wrote, “ Get them cleaned up and enlisted them for the Military. They will have all kinds of guns; to handle.”
