St Kitts and Nevis to host first-ever TechFest, showcases latest technology, innovations

St Kitts and Nevis is all set to host its first ever St Kitts TechFest on Friday, 4th October, 2024 at National Heroes Park from 10 am to 7 pm. This event is a part of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) ICT week 2024 and a great opportunity for all the vendors to participate in several activities and win some exciting prizes.

The inaugural St Kitts TechFest will be conducted in collaboration between the Department of ICT and Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU).

It will play a huge role in bringing together tech enthusiasts, innovators, and businesses from across the country to showcase the latest in technology, innovation, and digital transformation. As per the details, the authorities are currently accepting applications from vendors who wish to feature their products, services, and solutions at this groundbreaking event.

This is a great opportunity for all the vendors who specializes in tech startups, Food and Food & Drinks, Arts and Craft, Digital services and many more. The authorities have asked all the vendors to be a part of the future of tech in St. Kitts and Nevis and the wider Caribbean.

Notably, the registration is still open with the Fee including $100 XCD. The interested vendors can make this payment to the Accountant General at the Treasury. The authorities have asked all the interested vendors to register first before making payments and keep their receipt safe for verification.

CTU ICT WEEK 2024

Moreover, St Kitts and Nevis is all set to host Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) ICT week 2024 filled with several exciting events and activities from 30thSeptember to 4th October, 2024.

This exciting week will be conducted under the theme “Bridging Technologies for a Sustainable and Inclusive Future,” aiming to create a seamless network that optimizes energy use, reduces waste, and ensures that needs of the citizens are met in a sustainable manner.

The ICT Week is the CTU’s signature event which is held annually. This event brings together regional Ministers of ICT and ICT executives, policy makers, and stakeholders from across the region and the globe to promote ICT development, discuss emerging trends and facilitate meaningful partnerships between various stakeholders in the Caribbean and beyond.

While shedding light on the ICT Week 2024, the Minister of Energy, Konris Maynard stated that last year while attending the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) ICT week in Barbados, he took that opportunity to extend invitation to the regional body to host their next ICT week in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Minister Maynard stated that he is pleased to be hosting this week in the island nation as Minister of Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) here in St. Kitts & Nevis.

While emphasising on the guests that will be welcomed to St Kitts and Nevis for the occasion of ICT Week 2024, Minister Maynard noted that they will have Secretary-General of the International Telecommunications Union, which is the oldest UN specialized agency at 159 years old.

Along with that, they will also welcome Doreen Bogdan-Martin who will be making her first trip to the region as SG since her election to the post in Romania in 2022. Additionally, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO), Bernadette Lewis will also be attending the event.

Minister Maynard asserted that the ITU and the CTO are the foremost ICT specialized agencies in the world. He mentioned that these agencies in collaboration with the CTU, are critical for the region’s digital transformation in this age where ICT has become the backbone of the overall development.

The Minister continued to say that they will also have the pleasure of welcoming the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, who will give an address as the Lead Head of Government for Science and Technology in the CARICOM Quasi-Cabinet.

Also, the Secretary-General of the CTU, Rodney Taylor, and the President of the CTU, Senator Hassel Bacchus, Minister of Digital Transformation of Trinidad and Tobago will also be gracing the event with their presence.

Minister Konris Maynard stated that it will truly be his pleasure to address this illustrious field of ICT stakeholders, including ICT practitioners and regulators. He added that this event will play a huge role in leading St Kitts and Nevis towards growth and development.
