The Mental Health Service Systems Enhancement Project has been launched by the Government of St Kitts and Nevis to foster mental health support across the Federation.
This project was initiated by the Government in collaboration with the Republic of China (Taiwan) on Wednesday at the St Kitts Marriott Resort.
This Mental Health Service Systems Enhancement Project undertaken by the Government of St Kitts and Nevis is reported to run for a period of three years, concluding in August 2027.
Benefits of Mental Health Service Systems Enhancement Project
The implementation of this project will play a significant role in reducing the gaps in prevention, screening, early detection and treatment of mental health disorders.
Through this project, the Government is looking forward to increasing the allocation of funds to mental health service delivery as well as the proportion of the annual health budget.
Advancing mental health across the Federation
The collaboration between St Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan for the Mental Health Service Systems Enhancement Project shed light on the commitment of the authorities towards advancing mental health care.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew said that this transformative initiative shed light on their vision to strengthen mental health care by expanding resources, building capacity for mental health professionals, and improving access to services across the Federation.
PM Drew added that they are committed to normalise mental health and wellness in the country. He further went on to say that his administration has been making continuous efforts with a vision to help eliminate the stigma which is associated with mental health disorders in the country.
Mental health is a fundamental human right: PM Terrance Drew
Shedding light on mental health, PM Drew said that it is a fundamental human right and is essential for the development of people.
He emphasized on fostering mental health which is needed for the productivity of human beings as well as the development of socio-economic conditions of the country.
“The delivery of quality mental health services is a priority for the Government of St Kitts and Nevis,” said PM Terrance Drew.

PM Terrance Drew extended gratitude to the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for its invaluable partnership on this critical project. He added that this project will not only enhance their relations but will also play a significant role in fostering mental well-being across the Federation.
PM Drew said that this project is a testament to their unwavering commitment and dedication towards celebrating enduring friendship and fruitful collaborations between both nations.
