Sandal starts recruitment drive in St Vincent

The decision to fast-track recruitment efforts ahead of establishing the first Beaches resort in the Eastern Caribbean at the previous Buccament Bay locality is to buffer the displacement caused by the current volcanic explosion and the continued financial result due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sandals Executive Chairman Adam Stewart said that this recruitment would give direct employment to the nationals after opening the resorts on the beach.

Stewart said that they have remained committed towards supporting the citizens of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines by giving them opportunities through immediate employment and the long-term linkages that would flow once Beaches Saint Vincent gets underway. He was excited at the feedback from this first phase of the recruitment process, which identified some fantastic candidates. They have been looking forward to phase two as they aimed to provide employment opportunities for some 500 Vincentians in the first situation.

The first event for recruitment on the island was arranged from 26th May to 28th May, having 462 persons came for the interview. Winston Anderson, Managing Director for Sandals Resorts in Saint Lucia, leading the sandals teams, was also impressed with the interactions with the interviewers.

Anderson said that there was a striking acknowledgement from the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. They were gratified after noticing that in the limited period as they had on the ground, they would accommodate over 460 persons. Those will be further shortlisted, and successful candidates will be ordered at various resorts everywhere in the region.

Saint Vincent’s Minister of Finance, Camillo Gonsalves, said they had been excited to welcome the Sandals team to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Sandals were a quintessentially Caribbean company, and Adam Stewart had leveraged his company’s regional presence that provided meaningful assistance to Vincentians in the wake of their recent volcanic eruptions.

The recruitment drive demonstrates Sandals’ continued dedication to giving Caribbean nationals with training and employment chances over the region under its Team Member Exchange Programme.

Beaches Saint Vincent is simply one among several exciting new projects announced by Sandals Resorts in 2021. The resort chain recently broke ground for 3 new resorts in Jamaica which plans according to which follow for Curacao and St Vincent, all of which were supposed to make 5,000 new jobs over the subsequent five years.
