Castries, Saint Lucia: Prime Minister Philip J Pierre wished the people of the nation and world the occasion of Easter on April 9, 2023 (Sunday).
Prime Minister Pierre stated, “My brothers and sisters, today the world commemorates the resurrection of Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. It is a day of hope as well as renewal, a day that reminds us of the power of love and forgiveness.”
Through this social media post, Prime Minister also addressed the gun violence and homicides prevailing in the country. He also expressed his grief and prayed for the families of the victims.
PM Pierre stated, “However, as we celebrate this sacred day, we are once again reminded of the devastating impact of gun violence on our local communities. My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of those who were killed during last night’s heart-aching homicides. Their pain is unimaginable as well as they are in the thoughts and prayers of us all.”
Furthermore, Prime Minister Pierre also asked the general public to stand against such crimes and cooperate with the police and other defence organisations. He noted, “As we mourn this tragedy, we must not cower to these monsters behind such crimes. We must come together as a nation to address these senseless reprisal killings. They do not bring justice or resolution to any situation; instead, they cause more pain and suffering for all involved. I urge you to work with the police and local organisations to share information that will keep our communities safe.”
In addition to this, he extended thanks to the professionals working to make the nation crime-free. PM Philip J Pierre mentioned, “To our law enforcement officers, our medical professionals, and support staff, thank you for your steadfast and diligent service.”
While concluding the post, PM again extended wishes towards the general public. “On this resurrection, Sunday, let us remember the power of love and forgiveness and let us commit ourselves to create a safer and more peaceful country for all. Have a safe and Happy Easter,” he asserted.
