CARIFTA50: Ernest Hilaire congratulates Saint Lucian athlete Naomi London for winning silver in 100m final

Castries, Saint Lucia: Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire has congratulated Naomi London, a Saint Lucian athlete who clinched a silver medal in CARIFTA50 on April 09, 2023 (Sunday). London made the nation proud after winning a first-ever silver medal in the Women’s 100 m final at the 50th edition of the CARIFTA Games 2023.

Minister Ernest Hilaire, who also serves as the Minister for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information, shared a social media post updated by Saint Lucia Labour Party. Through the post, the Labour Party congratulated Naomi London and stated, “We are proud of you! Congrats to Naomi London on winning a silver medal in the Women’s 100m final at #CariftaGames2023!”

Along with this, many proud Saint Lucians took the platform to extend their congratulations towards the athlete for making the nation proud at the regional-level. One of the users, named Barbara Breen, said, “Congratulations Naomi,” while the second user, named Bernadette Charles, commented, “Congratulations, young lady!!!” and the third one wished her for her future sporting events and congratulated her for performing so well in this one.

The first position in the event was secured by Jahiah Nabbiein, the athlete representing the Bahamas. She bagged the gold in the completion after completing the race in 11.67 seconds (-1.0m/s). On the other hand, the third position was secured by Alexxe Henry after completing it in 11.81 seconds. Henry has been representing Trinidad and Tobago. She was followed by Jamaican athlete Natrece East.

This was not the first time that Naomi London has made the world proud. Earlier, during the CARIFA Games 2022, she finished sixth in the U17 100M Girls event, second in the heats as well as third in the semi-finals.

At that time, she was welcomed back to her school – Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School, with applause. The Saint Lucian school celebrated the triumph of their track and field superstar, Naomi London, with a bang.
