Athletic Profile of Latoya B Jones

St Kitts and Nevis: During her heyday, Latoya B Jones was an athlete par excellence. She began her athletics prowess at an early age at the St Thomas’ Primary School, where her ability as an exceptional sprinter was easily recognized. Coached then by Levingston ‘Jabada Lawrence’, she excelled as the top female sprinter at the school. While in Grade 3 and Grade 4, she ran faster than her peers in Grade 5 and Grade 6. At St Thomas Primary School, she broke and set new records from 1997 to 2003.

During her Inter Primary years, Latoya dominated her signature events, the 100 and 200 meters. At the 2002 Inter Primary, she won the coveted Female Class Champion Award.

Latoya continued her athletics dominance at the Charlestown Secondary School, where she competed for Gold House, also known as Bridgewater House. She was eventually elected as House Captain and became Class B Champion Female and Junior Female Champion in 2006. In addition to her signature events, she competed in field events, namely shotput, javelin, and discussions during her high school years.

Latoya was an annual fixture at the Inter-High School Championships in St Kitts, representing the Charlestown Secondary School with great pride and honour. She had the distinction of medaling at every Inter High School Championship that she competed in.

Latoya represented Nevis in numerous regional track meets. These included CUT Games, Leeward Island Youth, and Leeward Island Junior Championships. She also proudly competed in The Austin Sealey Track & Field Championship in Barbados. Latoya has performed with great distinction in all of these meets.

Latoya has served as Assistant General Secretary/Treasurer of the St Kitts-Nevis Athletic Association and Secretary/Coach of the Gladiators Track Club. Latoya remains a lover of track and field and continues to assist in all possible way. Latoya encourages all athletes to stay the course, work hard and follow their dreams.
