Guyana: President of the Republic of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, said that the 150k Guyana Coders Initiative will prepare as well as equip the youth of the country with the skillsets required to be globally competitive from 2030 and beyond.
During the inauguration of the initiative at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre today, the President reminded that the government is putting efforts in place to transform Guyana within the next decade.
He said the objective is to ensure that Guyanese are “competitive, resilient and functional”.
“We’re ensuring that we have the ideas, strategies and tools that would take the country forward that will ensure our economy is among the strongest. And what is the most important element to ensure this? You, the people, the children of tomorrow—the young people,” the President said.
Other young persons in the region are also expected to benefit from the programme as discussions have begun between the Guyana Government and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to make the initiative available to “all of the brothers and sisters in the CARICOM region”.
The President explained that Guyana is ready and willing to be a hub and to partner with the UAE to make the project available to the entire region since “we take our regional responsibility seriously”.
The UAE Director General of the Office of the Prime Minister, Abdulla Lootah; The Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand; the Minister of the Public Works Ministry, Deodat Indar and other officials of government were also at the event.
