PM Terrance Drew signs MoU with UWI, aims to create sustainable future

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of the West Indies by PM Terrance Drew is one of the significant steps towards fulfilling their agenda of creating a sustainable future for all the residents of the island nation.

Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has always been at the forefront in leading the nation towards sustainable development. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of the West Indies by PM Terrance Drew is one of the significant steps towards fulfilling their agenda of creating a sustainable future for all the residents of the island nation.
The MoU was signed by the dignitaries on 29th May 2024 by Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, the representative of St. Kitts and Nevis and Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, the representative of University of West Indies.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed with a vision to ensure that Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis is provided with essential equipment’s and tools which can be successfully utilized for the implementation of Sustainable Island State Agenda and lead the country towards growth and development.
Notably, the signing of the documents was conducted at the end of the successful National Side Event at SIDS4. The event was held under the theme “Towards Sustainable Island States: Tackling Human Capital and Health Crises in the Caribbean.”
The theme focuses on taking stringent measures and implementing policies with a vision to face all the crisis and challenges being addressed by the island nation. Along with that the theme also emphasises on taking significant and innovative steps in order to lead the nation towards sustainability and growth.
The event was attended by several delegates including Dr. Terrance Drew, the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Denzil Douglas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Joyelle Clarke, Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, Prof. Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice Chancellor, the University of the West Indies, Sandrea Maynard, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of West Indies, Tchaikouski York, the Youth Officer and the Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Colincia Levine, Permanent Secretary and the Ministry of Environment.
Dr Joyelle Clarke, the Minister of Sustainable Development stated that this signing of the memorandum will play a significant role in enhancing the regional integration and fostering strategic partnership. She further added that it is a crucial step undertaken by the authorities in fulfilling their agenda of making St. Kitts and Nevis, a sustainable island state.
Moreover, Prime Minister, Dr Terrance also conducted a productive meeting with United States Secretary of the Interior, Deb Haaland and United States Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis, Roger Nyhus. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States and discussions between the delegates focused on addressing the harsh effects of the climate change.
The active participation of Dr. Terrance Drew in SIDS4 showcases his unwavering commitment and dedication towards developing small island states and tackle all the challenges being faced by them in order to elevate small island nations to greater heights.
