Please stop, I am not your Christmas Prop, an inner voice of Reindeer is made into notice to the public by PETA (People for the ethical treatment of animals). An organization through a social media post stated that animals deserve freedom.
“Reindeer should be roaming freely with their friends and family, not forced to interact with humans for Christmas events and photoshoots,” PETA stated. Reindeers today suffer a lot as they are forced to unnatural environments for displays while their handlers make money off them.
Moving ahead, Reindeer often live at roadside attractions during the rest of the year and travel across vast expanses in their natural habitat. However, their lack of freedom in the Christmas days lay threats to their lives.
Such a condition can cause physical ailments like excessive hoof growth and poor muscle development as well as other forms of stress. At events like holiday displays, Reindeers are subjected to unwanted human contact.
They even are denied for their basic needs, all for photo opportunities and entertainment during the holidays. From the times these animals have started being used for Christmas Parades, displays or other holiday events, the life of Reindeers have completely changed. As for the rest of the year, they are kept at rental facilities and roadside zoos where they do not get proper care.
Holidays are said to be happy but are these really Happy for the animals like Reindeer?
Unfortunately, the answer to this is ‘No’. The clear justification to this answer is the report of a research which stated that a 2 year old Reindeer died at a Christmas tree farm in Wales in 2020. This is because one of the visitors fed him bread and sweets. Even the visitors offer them unhealthy food (too high in grains) which puts their health and lives at risk.
Not only this, in Utah at a holiday exhibit, 2 Reindeer jumped from the trailer while in transit and were struck by vehicles. One was killed there and another died in just about 5 to 6 days because of severe injuries.
On the Christmas days, they are even forced to pull the sleigh on a solid or concrete pavement which increases their chances of slipping. Thus, taking them towards the threat of injuries.
“Please never attend events with Reindeer or any other live animal,” requested PETA.
