New photos of Mehul Choksi walking around with a man who allegedly helped in his escape from Antigua and Barbuda were shared by anonymous sources. It is believed that the man being seen in the recent photographs is the one who had planned the entire layout of Choksi’s escape from Antigua to take him to his safehouse in Cuba.
Investigators in Antigua and Barbuda are now looking for the person who helped Mehul Choksi in his escape.
Earlier, a close aide of Mehul Choksi, Govin, had told media that he (Choksi) had plans to go to Cuba as he allegedly owns a safe house there, where he intended to stay for an indefinite period. Govin told the local media that Mehul also holds citizenship from another Caribbean country besides Antigua and Barbuda.
Even though several aspects with facts prove that Mehul Choksi left intentionally, his lawyers continue to push abduction theories. Leader of the opposition of Dominica and Mehul Choksi’s local lawyers are claiming he was kidnapped and was taken to Dominica on Calliope of Arne yacht, but they are ignoring a significant point.
The customs clearance document clearly mentions that Calliope of Arne yacht did sail from Antigua and Barbuda on 23May, but it left at 10:09 am, while Mehul Choksi went missing 7 hours after the boat sailed. Choksi’s family had affirmed that he was last seen at 5 pm, while he went to have dinner with his friend Babara Jarabica.
His lawyers are claiming he sustained injuries from the alleged abduction, while the doctors from the Dominica-China friendship hospital also stated that the bruises could be a result of anything as he is a 62-hour-old man; even a small thing can result in a blue mark, doctors also stated that the injury on his toe-nail is not new. Some believe he got the injuries while the police officials captured him for illegally entering Dominica.
Some lawyers believe that this fact could be destructive for the defence’s kidnapping story if they failed to prove it in court. With at least a seven-hour time difference between Choksi going missing and the yacht leaving for Dominica, this cannot be the same vessel utilised by him.
Prominent, expensive lawyers from three countries are trying to save Mehul Choksi from being extradited to India, where he is wanted in a $2 billion fraud. While Choksi has a legal team in India, a team from Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, and United Kingdom are working towards freeing him.
Even the leader of the opposition in Dominica Lennox Linton is regularly operating to push the kidnapping theories in media and on social media. He even attended the June 02 hearing of Choksi in the High Court of Justice in Roseau, where he was seen with Chetan Bhai Choksi, Mehul Choksi’s brother, who allegedly paid Linton a token sum of $200,000 for expediting the matter in media and parliament.
Lennox Linton was also among the first ones to state that Choksi was brought to Dominica on the same day he went missing via Calliope of Arne yacht, which again does not match when the real facts are put to the test. While boat experts suggest differently, as per experts, it is an 11-12 hours journey taken to 121 miles seaway distance between Antigua and Dominica at an average speed of 14 knots. As the Calliope of Arne had left in the morning, it must be another craft that was adopted by Choksi. Experts also stated that travelling in the dark gets comparatively slow; reaching Dominica from Antigua and Barbuda on a yacht is impossible.
Stephan Jones, a lawyer practising in the Caribbean region for the past two decades, stated that “The kidnapping theories appear to be very obvious, they had to plan-out something in a hurry, so they came up with the story of abduction, but they lack everything that is required to prove their claims,”
