Lusignan man pleads guilty for possession of cocaine

Guyana: The Lusignan man pleaded guilty for the offence of possessing cocaine on Tuesday, 2 January 2024. The accused has been identified as a 56-year-old Fisherman from Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, Guyana.

Notably, Terry was charged with the possession of Narcotics with the purpose of trafficking, contrary to Section 5(1) (a) (i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Control Act, Chapter 10:10.

As per the information, Ramlall was apprehended last week with his connection with 2.3 grams of cocaine. He was presented at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court, where the charges were read against him.

He was pleaded guilty for the offence he committed and was fined $30,000 cash for the same. Along with that, he had to provide ninety days of community service at the Vigilance Police Station. The services of Ramlall are to commence from Friday.

The residents of Guyana reacted to this matter through their comments via Facebook. One of the comments read as “This man looks like a hard-working man and probably taking the drugs and alcohol for a little more push. But he doesn’t realize it is not good for him. Hope he learn a lesson and won’t go back to drugs.”

Meanwhile, the other person commented, “This man looks like a hard-working man; I think someone pushed him as a trap.”

Moreover, it is an instance of Berbice that one man found with Ganja in underwear at New Amsterdam Prison. As per the information, a 29-year-old man, resident of 1015 Kilcoy/Chesney Settlement, Corentyne, Berbice was found with 2 grams of marijuana in a parcel which was stashed in his underwear at the said prison.

The suspect has been identified as Safraaz Hossein who was visiting the jailhouse at around 10:30 hrs to drop off the personal items for his brother. The staff of the prison became suspicious as the suspect was acting weird and the staff member conducted strip-searching on him. On conducting the search, the members found contraband in the underpants of the suspect.

The suspect was arrested immediately and was told of the offence he committed.
