Kraigg Brathwaite became the first West Indian to play 86 consecutive Test matches, surpassing the record set by the living national hero of Barbados, Sir Garfield Sobers.
This significant milestone achieved by Brathwaite, also a Barbadian, on Saturday sheds light on the excellence in the field of sports for the country.
Brathwaite has been playing his 86th test match against Bangladesh, scheduled from 30th November to 5th December, 2024.
These record-breaking knocks played by Brathwaite shed light on his commitment and dedication towards the ultimate format of the game, i.e. Test Cricket.
The player has set his sights on playing almost 100 test matches, a goal which is driving him forward.
Kraigg Brathwaite on reaching milestone
Emphasising on this remarkable achievement, Kraigg Brathwate said that he is extremely grateful to God for his blessings and his coaches for their teachings and knowledge. He said that in this generation there’s a lot of T10 and T20 cricket but test cricket is the real test.
The player shared his goal and motive of playing 100 test matches for his nation, aiming to continue to contribute for the development of the sports sector of the nation. He highlighted about the significance of test cricket in his life and said that it means ‘everything’ to him.
Brathwaite recalls his test journey
Kraigg Brathwaite made his Test debut in 2011 against Pakistan at Warner Park of St Kitts and Nevis. Following that, he was dropped from around nine matches. However, he made an unforgettable comeback in June 2014, scoring his maiden test century against New Zealand.
The Barbadian cricketer has till now scored 12 test centuries. Sharing about his favourite memory of scoring a ton, he said that it came against South Africa, who were the world’s number one team back then.
He also recalled about scoring hundred run against Australia in 2022 and England in 2017 and called those as some of his sweetest memories.
