Trinidad and Tobago: Carnival Institute of Trinidad and Tobago, also regarded as The Carnival Institute and Regional Carnival (CIRC), updates the general public of the twin-island country about Kerwin DuBois. While informing about him, the institute termed that singer as one of the sons of the soil of Trinidad and Tobago; it flashed limelight on the life of DuBois on its MusicMonday segment.
The social media post by the CIRC read that on Music Monday; the Carnival Institute feature one of our sons of the soil Kerwin DuBois. Kerwin’s first vocal appearance was in 1991, and as luck would have it, he won the Junior Calypso Monarch in 1992. In 1996 Kerwin became the youngest person to win the Young King Competition with his rendition of “We Built This City” and “Right or Wrong”. Kerwin was selected to represent Trinidad and Tobago in a Calypso Youth Exchange programme and would eventually cop the United Kingdom (UK) Calypso Monarch title in the year 2000.
As per the update, Kerwin’s continuous love and passion for the culture and the arts transcended into him becoming a renowned international calypso and Soca artist, lyricist and producer. Working as an accomplished songwriter and producer for other international artists such as Blaxx (Dexter Stewart), Bunji Garlin (Ian Alvarez), Destra Garcia, Machel Montano, Patrice Roberts and Kees Diefenthaller, amongst others, he began to spread his wings.
Furthermore, it mentioned that in 2008 he was nominated as a producer for eight International Soca Awards as part of the world’s largest Soca music competition. In 2011, Kerwin was the lyricist and producer of Kees Diefenthaller of Kes the Band song titled “Wotless.”
In addition to this, Carnival Institute and Regional Carnival stated that this gained him his first title of the Groovy Soca Monarch. Kerwin gained mainstream success with his hit single “Bacchanalist,” the song that won his first-ever International Groovy Soca Monarch title. In 2014 with the song titled “Too Real.” Kerwin is one of our truly gifted artists that continues to spread Soca music universally.
While concluding and paying tribute towards the legendary vocalist, the organisation also shared a YouTube link to Dubois’s performance.
