Kirani James featured in drone show at 50th Independence of Grenada
Kirani James, one of the world’s most decorated athletes who has claimed Grenada’s first and only gold Olympic medal, was one of the featured icons in the drone show marking the 50th anniversary of Independence.

Grenada: Kirani James, one of the world’s most decorated athletes who has claimed Grenada’s first and only gold Olympic medal, was one of the featured icons in the drone show marking the 50th anniversary of Independence.
It is noted that the spectacular drone and fireworks show was conducted at the National Stadium and will always be etched in the hearts and minds of the event’s attendees.
With the usage of over 500 drones, Grenada presented a musical presentation with detailed narration. The video highlighted renowned places, people and many special moments in the history of Grenada.
Along with Olympic medallist Kirani James, many other personalities were also portrayed and honoured in the drone display. The other famous personalities included Grenada’s first Prime Minister, Sir Eric Gairy, the Former Prime Minister, Maurice Bishop and Grenada’s longest-serving Prime Minister, Dr Keith Mitchell.
Kirani James is a Grenadian sprinter who has gained prestige for his nation several times. He was Grenada’s first Olympic medallist in any sport and he was also declared as the Grenada Sportsman of the Year in 2009. The breathtaking display of 500 drones symbolizes his memorable and beautiful journey as an athlete and his profound impact on his nation.
Shedding light on his remarkable journey, Kirani James has won a series of gold medals at the CARIFTA Games and the Commonwealth Youth Games. He has also won a silver medal at the 2007 World Youth in the 400 m race and in the 2008 World Junior Championships.
James Kirani also won Grenada Athlete of the Year in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 respectively. He was named number 1 in the world in the year 2011, 2012 and 2014 at 400m race and he secured second position in 2013.
Moreover, one of the most famous stadiums of the nation, Grenada National Stadium, was also renamed to Kirani James Athletic Stadium in order to honour the first Olympic medallist of Grenada, Kirani James.
The presence of Kirani in the drone show exhibits his impact on the nation and all the citizens who aspire to represent their country in sports.
