Kingstown, St Vincent and the Grenadines: A 51-year-old was arrested and charged after he admitted to having sexual relations with his 25-year-old daughter. His pregnant daughter filed a case against him through which he has pleaded guilty to four counts of incest.
The police revealed that the man had been involved in a physical relationship with her daughter when she was 15 years old between 2014 and 2015, which resulted in her pregnancy.
Initially, the defendant countered the charges and claimed them to be false in March, 2023. His next trial was started on Tuesday without any legal representation.
Details of the case
The victim made a report that in 2014, when her father came home drunk, he assaulted her sexually in a constructive zone, due to which she got pregnant.
Following the year in December, when she found out about her pregnancy, she was convinced that the baby belonged to her father, as he was the only man she had sex with.
The man sexually abused her even when she was pregnant. The accused got intimate with his daughter again even before the six-week recovery period, which worsened her postpartum haemorrhage.
The victim filed a case against her father in which she alleged that he sexually assaulted her regularly since childhood. She shared her narrative, following which the trial would continue on Wednesday but an unexpected turn of events changed that.
The Defendant was represented by Attorney Wendel Alexander, who recommended that he alter his plea. As a result of this development, the defendant was handed a guilty verdict.
In addition, the reports revealed that a 25-year-old disclosed that when she was 11 years old, she gave a witness statement that her school counsellor had physically assaulted her, due to which she was removed from her house for safety concerns.
Her father forced her to write a letter before she was allowed to leave that made false allegations of abuse against the counsellor.
Notably, six months after the birth of her baby, her welfare officer took her and the baby in a safe environment.
If sources are to be believed, it has been said that the accused was also arrested in 2015 but the trial was not executed. A girl then sued his father for child support, and in response, he was re-arrested in 2021.
A 51-year-old was presented in court in front of Justice Ann-Marie Smith, where the charges were read to him. During the hearing, the judge described the case as the ‘worst case ever heard.’
“This is the worst case I have ever heard in my life”, said Justice Smith. His bail was revoked as he admitted his offence. He remains in the police custody until May 10.
Additionally, such stances of crime have shaken the hearts of people. The person who commits such crimes should be held behind bars. The authorities are urged to take strict actions and implement strict rules to combat the problem of these heinous crimes in the country.
