Castries, Saint Lucia: Julien Alfred won the first ever World Gold medal for Saint Lucia at the World Athletics Indoor Championship 2024. Her unwavering commitment and dedication made her the first athlete ever from Saint Lucia to win a world title at such a prestigious championship.
Julien Alfred participated in the Women’s 60m and took down a quality field at the World Indoor Championship in Glasgow, Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The championship was scheduled to take place from the 1st to 3rd March, 2024.
With her hard work and intent determination, Julien Alfred defeated 9 other contestants to clinch the title in 6.98 seconds. By winning the title, she has not only created history but has given a sense of motivation and inspiration to all those athletes who are striving hard to achieve success in his/ her life.
Notably, Ewa Swoboda of Poland secured the second spot and completed her race in 7:00 seconds. Meanwhile, Zaynab Dosso of Italy claimed the third position, making an Italian national record of 7:05 seconds.
After winning the medal, Julien Alfred gave an interview and highlighted about her aspiration turning into reality.
“I’ve been dreaming about it for such a long time to come out here and get my country their first-ever medal,” said Julien Alfred.
Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre also took to his official Facebook account and extended congratulations to the sprinter and expressed gratitude for creating a historic moment for the island nation and achieving a significant milestone in her career.
“Ms. Alfred gave an exceptional performance! Join me in congratulating our very own Julien Alfred on winning the 60m sprint at the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024,” mentioned PM Pierre.
Ernest Hilaire, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Creative Industries, Investment, Culture and Information also extends best wishes to Julien for her exceptional victory. He said “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Julien Alfred! Remember her name.”
Julien Alfred’s remarkable victory is a reminder to every single person that no one can stop anyone from achieving success and progress in their life, if they work with all their heart to achieve it.
