America’s Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone defeated Saint Lucia’s Olympic Gold medallist, Julien Alfred to hold the Female Track Athlete of the Year Award.
Notably, the top two leading athletes in track field and out of stadium category were chosen from the first round of voting.
Therefore, the Olympic champion, Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia and the 400-meter hurdles Olympic Champion, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone of the United States were shortlisted for the track athlete of the year award.
After a final round of voting, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was announced as the winner at the World Athletics Awards 2024 in Monaco on Sunday. This award ceremony was conducted with a vision to celebrate the finest performances of the athletes across multiple categories.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s record breaking journey in 2024
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone broke her own record with 50.65 seconds to win the Olympic trials in Eugene and later followed it up with another world record of 50.37 seconds at the Olympic Games Final.
She defended her Olympic crown from Tokyo to become the first woman to do so in the 400-meter hurdles. She also showcased her versatility with two incredible performances in the 400-meter flat and 200 meters where she clocked 48.75 and 22.07 seconds respectively.
McLaughlin-Levrone also helped the US quartet to an American record in the 4*400 relay at the Games which earned her another Olympic Gold medal.

Following McLaughlin-Levrone’s victory in Monaco, Saint Lucia’s first ever Olympic gold medallist, Julien Alfred took to her social media account and extended congratulations to the athlete.
Alfred shared Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s picture on her social media account which was highly appreciated by the netizens of Saint Lucia.
This year has been phenomenal for Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred as she became the first ever athlete to win Olympic Gold medal for the nation. She claimed the first ever Gold medal in 100m and silver at the 200m, becoming the first-ever athlete from the country to achieve this remarkable milestone.
She also clinched the first ever senior global medal in athletics earlier in March for Saint Lucia, where she stormed to the world indoor 60m title in Glasgow.
Though Alfred was not able to win the award, her fans still flooded the social media by congratulating and lauding her for her true sportsman spirit.
