Guyana man arrested for possessing ammunition without license
Vishnu Persaud, a 21-year-old Labourer and resident of East Coast Demerara, Guyana, was sentenced to eight months imprisonment for the offence of Possessing ammunition without a license.

Vishnu Persaud, a 21-year-old Labourer and resident of East Coast Demerara, Guyana, was sentenced to eight months imprisonment for the offence of Possessing ammunition without a license.
Notably, the defendant was charged on 18 December 2023 for possession of ammunition without a license, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.
The suspect was taken to the Vigilance Magistrate Court at around 11:00 pm and was presented before Magistrate Fabayo Azore. The charges were read to him, and he pleaded guilty and was penalised with eight months imprisonment.
Meanwhile, the information about the arrest of Vishnu Persaud has received mixed reactions from the public. Several people have expressed their sentiments on this, adding that, “Eight months only, this court has messed up. No lie.”
Moreover, one more case occurred in the month of December, when an Annandale businessman was apprehended for the possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The businessman namely, Yogesh Paul, resident of Corny Street Annandale, East Coast Demerara, Guyana, was charged with Possession of a Firearm without a license, contrary to Section 16(2) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05. He was also charged for Possession of Ammunition without a license, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.
Therefore, the businessman was taken to the Cove and John Magistrate Court, where he was presented before Magistrate Fabayo Azore. The businessman was later granted bail under a few conditions. The businessman had to pay a sum of $50,000 and report to the Vigilance Police Station every Friday.
It has also received a lot of public response. Out of which, one comment reads, “This guy needs to protect his business. Every kid in Guyana has a gun. What about those Spanish people who don’t even have an ID card and destroy stuff.”
Furthermore, Guyana Police officials reported one more case where Daniel Murray, who is also known as Danny, was arrested. The 18-year-old man was charged with the offence of possessing narcotics with the purpose of trafficking.
It is to be noted that the 18-year-old man has been identified as a resident of Britton Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara. The man was taken to the Sparendaam Magistrate Court and was presented before Magistrate Liverpool.
He was not pleaded guilty and was granted bail with a sum of $150,000 cash.
