Guyana authorities recovered 1916 grams of narcotics and .38 revolver during search operations

Georgetown, Guyana: The Customs-Anti Narcotics Unit of Guyana conducted two operations in the Greater Georgetown area and recovered 1916 grams of narcotics and a .38 revolver. During the search exercise, the officers arrested two individuals on Friday.

Notably, CANU officers conducted an operation in the said area, where they intercepted a motor car. Subsequently, the authorities held a search of the vehicle and found a Ziploc bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The two individuals who were the occupants of the vehicle were arrested by the authorities and were later taken to CANU’s headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. It was later tested positive and weighed by the officers, it amounted to 1 kilogram.

On the next day, the officers held a follow-up operation in the same area and held a search in an abandoned house which led to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing a quantity of cannabis that weighed 916 grams and a .38 revolver.

Moreover, the cannabis that was seized is known as “Sour Deisel,” which is a foreign cannabis that is reported to have a current street value of GYD$700,000 per kilogram.

Following such discoveries, the residents of Guyana appreciated the efforts of the authorities for constantly making stringent steps towards curbing the crime rates. The citizens took to their social media accounts and lauded them. One person wrote “Truly proud of what Guyana authorities are doing, our country needs such officers who are making efforts for the betterment of the nation.”

Another person commented the following “Keep on going officers, such exercises are necessary to be taken in order to prevent drug activities.”

Such exercises is a testament to the unwavering commitment and dedication of the Guyana authorities towards making the country a drug-free and peaceful nation, where every person can reside safely and securely.
