Various residents of the nation took to their social media accounts and expressed their views on the matter. One person with a Facebook account, Komatie Persaud, commented, “For 33 grams. Wow. And people are causing accidents and worse and living freely. I can never understand the justice system in Guyana.”

Another person with a Facebook account, Darryl Gillard, commented the following: “This is utterly ridiculous. It’s a waste of taxpayers’ money to keep him incarcerated for so long for just a couple of grams of weed. I can legally possess more than that in NY.”
