Georgetown, Guyana: A tattoo artist was arrested from Rose Hall Town with possession of four hundred thirty-six (436) grams of suspected Marijuana.
During a ‘Cordon and Search Operation’ conducted by the Police ranks in Berbice between 12:30 and 13:00 hours on November 5, 2023, they arrested a Tattoo artist for possession of Marijuana.
The ranks received information about the individual who had a cache of Marijuana. They acted on the report received and went to the home of Nicholson Samaroo, who is a 29-year-old Tattoo artist from Mattai Street, Rose Hall Town, at Corentyne Berbice, which is situated in a completely fenced yard.
Notably, when the ranks arrived at the gate, they found Samaroo standing about five (5) feet away from where the ranks were. He immediately picked up a voluminous pink plastic bag and threw it into an assemblage of bushes.
One of the ranks picked up the bag and opened it in the presence of Samaroo, and it was found to contain a quality of seeds, stems and leaves which were suspected to be Cannabis.
Samaroo was informed of the offence committed and cautioned by him, and therefore, he was arrested and taken to the Rose Hall Town Police Station.
It is to be noted when the suspected Cannabis was amounted and weighed at the police station; it came to know that the Samaroo possessed four hundred and thirty-six grams of Cannabis.
He was placed into custody and set up to be charged as per the rules and regulations.
Cases like the illegal attainment of Marijuana or Cannabis are not new things, as just a few days ago, a man was arrested for smuggling drugs to his friends by the officials of the Guyana Prison Service.
He was taken into custody when he tried to supply 24.01 grams of Cannabis into the Lusignan Prison to his friend by packing the drugs under his slippers. However, due to the attentiveness of the official, he got caught and arrested.
Such cases need to be treated immediately, and strict action should be taken against these crimes.
