Dr Terrance Drew extends support to Jamaica, calls PM Andrew Holness

Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, extended support to Jamaica, which recently went through the wrath of Hurricane Beryl. He also asked all the citizens of the island nation to pray for the well-being of the people who have been badly impacted.

PM Drew also spoke to the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness and stated that his entire nation stands in solidarity with the people of Jamaica.

“I just spoke with colleague Prime Minister Andrew Holness of Jamaica. I extended my full support to him and the people of Jamaica on behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis,” noted Dr. Terrance Drew.

PM Drew stated that the leader of Jamaica explained him in the call that the eye of Hurricane Beryl has moved further away from Jamaica and the Hurricane Warning has also been discontinued for the island nation. However, a flash flood watch is still in effect in the island nation because of the continuing periods of heavy rainfall cloud which might result in flash flooding over low-lying and flood prone areas.

Jamaica was severely hit with heavy winds and rain, which resulted in damaging buildings and falling trees. The Category 4 Hurricane entered the island nation with winds of up to 130 mph on Jamaica’s southern coast. Hurricane Beryl has caused huge losses to several Caribbean regions due to which infrastructural damages have been recorded in nations like Carriacou, Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines and recently Jamaica. The storm left a trail of destruction across the Caribbean and killed at least seven people.

Therefore, the Government of St Kitts and Nevis is standing in solidarity with the nations affected badly by Hurricane in order to extend helping hand to those countries. Recently St Kitts and Nevis also supplied the contribution of 200 tarpaulins and a number of cases of bottled water to Grenada and St Vincent and the Grenadines in order to offer their assistance.
