Budget 2024/2025: Minister Irving McIntyre to present $1.4 billion financial plan

Dominica is all set to present 2024/2025 budget with the estimated expenditure of $1.4 billion today. This budget is to be presented by Dr Irving McIntyre, the Minister of Finance during the First Meeting of the Second Session of the Eleventh Parliament.

Dominica: The Minister of Finance, Dr Irving McIntyre stated that the inflation rate of Dominica continues to remain below global level.

Roseau, Dominica: Dominica is all set to present 2024/2025 budget with the estimated expenditure of $1.4 billion today. This budget is to be presented by Dr Irving McIntyre, the Minister of Finance during the First Meeting of the Second Session of the Eleventh Parliament.

The proceedings of the House are reported to begin at 10:00 am and the Budget 2024 presentation can be viewed on the official social media channels of the Government Information Service (GIS) and the Dominica Broadcasting Service (DBS) who will be telecasting the entire budget live.

The Budget Session of Parliament 2024 will commence with Sylvanie Burton, President of Dominica addressing a joint sitting. As per the details, the proposed estimates of expenditure for the financial year, ending on 30th June 2025 is anticipated to be EC$1,486,951,793.

It is also estimated that Parliament will seek authorization to borrow an overdraft from the financial institutions as well as an additional credit facility from the International Development Association. The credits are reported to be utilized for funding of the Emergency Agricultural Livelihoods and Climate Resilience Project. The amendments to the Value Added Tax will also be one the highlighting agenda of the 2024/2025 budget presentation.

In the last week, the Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit also shed light on the upcoming 2024/2025 budget presentation and stated that it has been designed to make a positive impact on their lives and livelihoods, taking into consideration the current global realities.

He further added that this year’s budget will focus on their efforts to consolidate the gains they have made in recent years. Along with that, they will outline priorities and measures to further stimulate economic activity, create employment and improve long term efficiency in the administration of their country’s affairs.

The Minister of Finance will also be expected to outline a new structure for the nursing service in Dominica, with the creation of several new positions, which will allow for the upward mobility of the nurses of Dominica and to recognize the special, specialized and specialist training.

The Prime Minister has stated that he is assured that all the citizens of Dominica will be pleased with the budget presentation and its contents.
